Rambling: The Christmas Meme

I appropriated this from several different people. Sorry to spam your flists with non-fic but I don't know how to filter (one of my wishes actually addresses this!!). :) Happy Holidays to you all!

OK, so I decided to play this year. And, being me, I totally disobeyed the rules.

This list? Goes to eleven...

Step One

Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.


Step Two

Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it. Once a wish has been granted, it will be crossed off my list.

You needn't Please don't spend money on these wishes!! unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.


My Holiday Wishes...

1. I know this one has shown up on a lot of lists, but it really is a wonderful thing! I wish everyone could make a donation to something like Toys for Tots or Heifer International or even just remember to drop a dollar in that Salvation Army Bell Ringer's red bucket. I know I complain about my life/job/whatever sucking all the time, especially lately, but when I really think about it, my life is cake compared to so many others. Spread the LOVE!

2. If you're sending paper cards this year, please think about using ones that help others as well as telling your loved ones to have a happy holiday. The Hallmark RED cards or their UNICEF cards are great examples.

3. I wish for the guts to finally defy my mother and get that tattoo.

4. I wish for a trip to the UK. Will write fic for room and board!

5. I wish for an easy-to-follow set of instructions for fancying up my LJ page. It's so dull because I have NO clue what I'm doing. I can't even figure out how to put that little yellow-triangle-exclamation-point warning for adult content on my User Info page! *facepalm*

6. I wish for Jack/Ianto icons… or banners… or wallpapers.

7. I wish for Jack/Ianto smut… or fluff… or angst. Heck, I'm not picky – I just hope y'all keep writing!!

8. I wish for a good fairy to bop THAT MAN on the head with some super special fairy dust that makes him wake up and realize what he's done and gets him off his arse and writing Season 4, Episode 1: In Which It Was All A Very, Very Bad Dream… Hey, if Dallas can do it, why not Torchwood?? Plus, Ianto in the shower? Niiiiice. :)

9. OK, totally materialistic thing #1 – I wish for a copy of Adam Lambert's CD. *facepalm* I've become mildly obsessed ever since all the flap over the AMA's, which I didn't even watch, LOL. And not because of his 'risqué' performance, but because of his poise, sense of humor and perspective in the face of all the media hoopla after it. Really, I blame qaffangyrl. (*hugs* sweetie!! No doubt you remember my "Adam who?" at Torchsong, hee. Look at me now!) I just really like the cut of his jib, as they say. :)

10. And totally materialistic thing #2 – Just like cjharknessgirl, I wish for a copy of JB's concert DVD. I'm in my family's traditional Thanksgiving-to-Christmas self-purchase blackout. *sigh* This is what I get for procrastinating!! ;) Thank you thank you, you know who you are!!! **HUGS**

And my final wish…

11. LOVE YOURSELVES!! I wish that you all find someone close to give you a big hug from me, even if you just wrap your arms around yourself and squeeze! You are all such wonderful, sweet, naughty, hilarious, amazing people that sometimes I can't believe my luck in meeting y'all – whether it be on-line or in person. Every comment on my silly fics brings a huge smile to my face. I hope you know how much it means to me to have found a little home here. *hugs* Love you all!

I don't know if it works the same way with a paid account, but if you go to your account settings (edit profile, wieving options), you choose 'display' and down at the bottom of the page you have an 'adult content', then you just pick the one you want and save settings, hope this helps.

So, beware this is coming from a selfconfessed technophobe, but if you just want to change the layout, if you Select Journal Style option, just below the Post an Entry button, you can change your theme. Don't know if it helps, but good luck

Okay

#1 - I am planning on getting a toy and putting it in the supermarkets collection for children in the refuge (having fled domestic violence). Haven't done yet, but is definitely planned.

#4 - If you plan on coming to Shropshire (English side of the border with Wales) and can put up with a semi-hyper 7 year old boy, you're welcome to spend some time here :)

#5 Yellow warning triangle - go here (http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/?cat=display) and set your warnings to explicit adult content - triangle should then appear on your profile page. Message me other queries and I will see what I can answer.

#6 - If I can ever figure out Photoshop, I will have a go (I haven't had much luck so far, but if I can it is a wallpaper I want to do, so....)

#7 - I have said I will try and write some Janto for off_the_post18 so watch this space (oh muses, please come back....)

#7, 8, 10, 11 - I think these may be going on my wishlist as well.

Well, there's not much on there I can address, but...

#3: DO IT. Seriously. It's your body, your life, your choice. If you REALLY want the tattoo, get it. Granted, I had my mom's support and we actually got ours together, but I think I would have gotten it even if she hadn't agreed. The point is, you're an adult. And if you really want the tattoo and don't have any hesitation apart from worrying about your mother, then you should go for it.

I don't think I've ever commented, and that's my bad. I've enjoyed Vizzini's Rule, To The Pain and now The Sea After A Storm. Imagine my delight now that I can return the favor and present you with a Janto picture. But - Gah! I don't know how to attach a photo. I don't even know if that's possible. However, I have two in my scrapbook and you're welcome to both of them. I know my way around Photoshop and Illustrator, but html and programming - my mind goes blank.

*hugs* Oh that's so lovely!! Thank you!! I had a whirlwind UK trip a few years back but the farthest west we got was Somerset. Cornwall and Wales was the plan for the next trip but then the economy tanked and now I can't go anywhere. *sigh*

no 3 got my tattoo at age 43 as birthday gift from my much tattooed nephews who thought i would chicken out and not do it!
so went got my black and red tribal butterfly on my left arm and it is lovely,plus we women have much higher pain threshold than men and it was no worse than slight jab of needle when sewing,just lasted longer but no huge screaming agony.
now i want the initials of me hubby and kids done in nice font on right arm and am hoping to get for 47th birthday this year,ignore your mother,i ignore my elder relations,who dont understand either
