A Heaven on Earth
Ianto arrived home to find a single red rose fastened to the doorknob of his flat with a white ribbon. Curious, he untied it carefully and let himself in. He sniffed the flower as he hung up his coat and smiled at the heady fragrance. When he turned to walk down the hall, his eyes were immediately drawn to the floor. Someone, and Ianto was rapidly deducing just who that someone might be, had strewn rose petals down the hall and around the corner into the living room. He chuckled and followed the path, taking care to step on as few petals as possible.
His suspicions were confirmed when he stepped out of the hallway and into his candlelit front room. Jack was sitting on a black faux fur throw in front of the fireplace with a big grin on his face. There was a bottle of champagne sitting in an ice bucket on the hearth next to a box of chocolates and a rather large book, opened to a specific page. Ianto wasn't certain but he thought it might be his complete works of Shakespeare from his University days.
Ianto swallowed his laughter and managed to say in an only slightly wavering voice, "Jack? What's all this?"
"Come here," Jack said softly, reaching a hand out to Ianto.
Ianto joined Jack on the rug. As soon as he'd sat down, Jack pulled him close and kissed him. "I feel like we never have time for anything but work these days," Jack explained. He reached back and grabbed the bottle of champagne, popping the cork with ease. As he filled the glasses, he went on. "I don't want you to think I'm taking you for granted, so I thought a little wooing was in order," he finished, clinking his glass against Ianto's.
"Wooing?" Ianto asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Wooing," Jack repeated. "Step One, roses. Step Two, candles. Step Three, champagne. Step Four – " He snagged the box of chocolates and offered it to Ianto. "All dark chocolate."
Ianto thought Jack was being terribly silly, but the chocolates looked good so he obligingly popped one in his mouth. When the sweet richness of the dark chocolate started to melt instantly on his tongue, Ianto felt his eyes fall closed and let out a completely involuntary moan. His moan was echoed by Jack who leant in for another long kiss.
"Mmm," Jack hummed when he pulled back. "Those are good chocolates."
"You chose well," Ianto agreed, grabbing another one out of the box. "What's Step Five?" he inquired gamely as he nibbled at the candy.
"Ah, Step Five is… serenading," Jack said proudly as he reached for a guitar that Ianto hadn't seen.
Ianto choked on the chocolate and had to take a quick sip of champagne before he could speak. "Serenading? Jack, you're ridiculous."
Jack just ignored him and began to sing while strumming the guitar. "The first time ever I saw your face, I thought the sun rose in your eye-eye-eye-eye-eyes and the moon and stars were the gifts you gave – "
He broke off when Ianto grabbed the guitar by the neck and dragged it out of his hands.
"Hey!"
"To quote Monty Python, 'no singing'," Ianto said sternly.
Jack looked put out for a moment but then smiled brightly. "On to poetry then."
Ianto groaned.
Jack hefted the book into his lap and began to read.
"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?"
"I really wish you wouldn't," Ianto teased, stretching out and eating another chocolate.
"Hmm… How sweet and lovely dost thou make the shame, Which, like a canker in the fragrant rose – "
"A canker? How romantic."
Jack flipped a few more pages. "Let me not to the marriage of true minds, Admit impediments," Jack said, looking up at Ianto before reading any further.
"Brilliant, really, best one, but…"
"But?" Jack prompted.
"Well, it's a bit of a cliché now, isn't it?" Ianto said with a wink.
"My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun," Jack declaimed, already shaking with laughter even before Ianto hit him with a pillow.
"If you're going to start talking about your mistress, I'm leaving," Ianto threatened.
Jack gave up on the poetry, tossing the book aside and pinning Ianto to the fur rug with his own body.
"Now, you're talking," Ianto purred as he tugged Jack down for a long, chocolate-flavoured kiss. They moved against each other with an ease born of practice and affection, each one knowing just what the other liked best.
Jack drew back after a moment and began to loosen Ianto's tie. "A heaven on earth I have won by wooing thee," he murmured. He kissed Ianto's throat softly as soon as it was bared.
Letting out a contented sigh, Ianto ran his hands through Jack's thick, dark hair. "What's that from?" he asked.
"More Shakespeare. All's Well That Ends Well," Jack replied.
"Mmm," Ianto moaned. "I do like a happy ending," he whispered and pulled Jack up for another kiss.
